Herald Square...what's up?

Q:
Are grapes smarter than people?

Herald Square:
Researchers have mapped a pinot noir grape and found it contains 30,000 genes in its DNA.
In comparison, the human genome contains a measley 20,000 to 25,000 genes.
What are the grapes doing with their extra 5,000 genomes? No one can really say, but some scientists fear the grapes will find this out and attempt a coup d'etat on the free world.
In other news, some grapes claim they are the direct descendents of the far simpler humans, but the creationist grapes will not admit to this.

This puzzle may or may not have been solved by a pinot noir grape.
